Welcome to the first release of the FP Dev Compendium! (21/07/2026)

Music

Freedom Planet's OST is probably one of its key highlights. It took a lot of effort to perfect, and as such a lot of tracks got scrapped or reworked along the development process, as is usual in game dev.
This page might take a while to load everything, sorry...

Some quotes are taken from the OST download's commentary or other places with proper credit. Additionally some tracks from the OST are used directly on this page. Please support the devs by purchasing the OST if you can!!!

Earlier Track Versions

Freedom Planet Theme

Sabrina's Demo Final

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Apparently this MIDI was lost for a good while... But they found it!

you found it!! :D

Freedom Planet Theme (Title Screen)

Beta Final

Sourced from the game files.

The earlier one is in a higher key and has different instrumentation.

This song went through a lot of changes, honestly. I'd actually originally intended it to be a little more emotional, and a little less action-y, but that didn't end up working out. I'm pretty happy with the final product. - OST Commentary

Dragon Valley 1

Sabrina's Demo Beta Final

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Sabrina's demo is in a lower key than the other renditions. The melody used at 0:40 in both early renditions sounds nearly identical to a melody in Theme of Love from Final Fantasy IV, which is why the melody was reworked in the final track.

This track was used as a base for the song that made it into the final game... at least, the beta version of it. I was worried about one part of the melody being too similar to a theme from Final Fantasy IV, so we revamped the song a second time before release. - Sabrina's Demo
I honestly wasn't terribly happy with what I did for the level at first, and very, very late into the project, [Sabrina] gave me the go ahead to redo the song. I had a far, far clearer idea of what I wanted to do with it the second time through. [...] The end product is something I felt that flowed together far better, although it was very different. - OST Commentary

Dragon Valley 2

Claire Ellis's
Arrangement
(Deleted)
Beta Final

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Claire Ellis's arrangement is in a lower key than the rest. It was deleted off of Soundcloud at some point, so I had to source it from TCRF. No one archived the page (and I didn't think to either) so I couldn't get her commentary. I'm sorry.

This one was from an era early in the project when we had a third musician join us for a little while. In fact, [she] did most of the arrangement on this track. Musicians will notice the time signature change between the first stage and this one – that was [Claire]'s doing, and [she] really brought a lot to the table with it, I feel.
This song, like the first Dragon Valley stage was redone very late into the game's development. Neither it nor the first stage really met the level of quality of the rest of the soundtrack, and I set out to fix that with both. - OST Commentary

MEANIE Boss! (Minor Boss Battle)

Sabrina's Demo (Isolated) 2011 Arrangement
(Snippet, Edited)
Beta Final

Sourced from the game files, Dragon Valley beta video and Soundcloud.

The 2011 arrangement is the first track Leila worked on and only provided as a snippet, with it cutting to a WIP Freedom Planet 2 track in the original upload as this was intended as a comparison between Leila's old and new composition styles. I have edited it a bit to undo the fade-in, but it isn't perfect.
The beta revision of the track was also referred to as "Sub Boss" pre-release.

Start: 2011, first song I did for Freedom Planet (arrangement work here, composition was by [Sabrina].) - 2011vs2020 [Freedom Planet/2]
I didn't feel this early piece held up with the rest of the soundtrack, and ultimately redid it, building off of what was already there! There are a few things that sound rather odd in this, listening back, but it was definitely a learning experience.
Like the two Dragon Valley stages, this theme was redone very late into the development of the game. [...]
The redo also included a part that I had composed for the song originally, and then ultimately cut out of the song, thinking what I had for it was long enough, before.
Since some boss fights end up lasting a long time, though, when I redid the song, I added everything back in! - OST Commentary

Relic Maze 1

Sabrina's Demo Earlier?
Early (v1.1) Final (v1.3)

Source unknown for the early version, otherwise from the game files and Soundcloud.
The earlier version comes from an old demo reel.

Another version supposedly exists with different mixing compared to the final one (might be the earlier version?), though I can't find anything else about it:

This is the version with better-sync'd vocals, and less sharp guitar. The old one is going byebye! - Relic Maze (part 1) [BGM] [Re-Upload!]

Relic Maze 2

Early (v1, 2012) Final (v1.1)

Source unknown for the early version, otherwise from the game files.

An earlier rendition of Relic Maze 2 that is shorter and has a slower BPM.

Major Boss Battle

Beta Final

Sourced from the game files.

The older version features slightly different instrumentation, is shorter, and has the clap build-up from the beginning of the track slightly off-beat.

Like with the meanie boss theme, there was a large section I left out initially, and added back in, when I touched the song up to reach the level of the rest of the soundtrack. - OST Commentary

Freedom Planet TV!

The Last Hope OST In-game

Sourced from the game files, OST and Soundcloud.

holy shit
The Last Hope was originally recorded as a celebration of the Kickstarter goal for making Torque playable being hit. The voice acting from it was reused for Freedom Planet TV! in the final.

Fortune Night 1

Sabrina's Demo 15route (2012)
Early Final

Source unknown for 15route, otherwise taken from the game files, Furaffinity and Soundcloud.

The early version features different mixing compared to the final track, and its metadata refers to it as "Fortune City - Stage 1".
The final version is a combination of the demo made by Sabrina and "Route 15", an old song Leila had written when she was younger:

Rather than me arranging a song [Sabrina] wrote, I dug up a song I wrote in my teenage years, and actually added parts of [her] song to it! - Furaffinity upload of Fortune Night 1 (Early)

Both the 15route version heard here and the version for Fortune Night 2 are in-between arrangements of "Route 15", from the time Leila was attempting to adapt it into Freedom Planet's music style:

"Route 15" is a song I wrote as a child that I adapted into Fortune Night. The files here are two of the 'in-between' versions, where I was adapting the style. - Soundcloud DMs

Fortune Night 2

15route-act2 (2012) Early Final

Source unknown for 15route-act2, otherwise from game files.

The early version has the drum sample from the beginning instead at the end of the song, making it loop way worse. This version was used up until 1.20.6, as it isn't present in 1.21.X versions.
Strangely, the OST version seems to be the early version of the track with a fadeout at the end instead.

Both the 15route version heard here and the version for Fortune Night 1 are in-between arrangements of a track she made titled "Route 15", from the time Leila was attempting to adapt it into Freedom Planet's music style. Additionally, it is based on another MIDI file:

I had the MIDI file from when I first composed this song laying around on my computer, and actually used that to create the project file for stage 2. - OST Commentary

Target World (Shang Mu Academy)

Sabrina's Demo Final

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Sabrina's demo (and by proxy the final version) is an arrangement of an old track Leila made:

A long, long time ago, I composed most of this song for a personal project. I didn't end up using it at all, and while [Sabrina] and I were sending each other old, outdated songs, [she] really got a kick out of it. [She] arranged what had been a slow, inspiring orchestral piece into something faster, and shot it back my way, at which point, I finished it.
I think the arrangement really fits an academy setting. Do your best! - OST Commentary

Sky Battalion

Earliest Earlier/Rage Ravine Early
Final (OST) Final

Source unknown for the earliest version, otherwise from the OST.

Each version is more or less tonally different due to Sabrina and Leila struggling to find a good vibe for the track. The OST version has an intro that is otherwise missing from the in-game version. The earlier version was also intended for use in a stage called "Rage Ravine", which got cut in the final game.

[The earlier version] is also one of the unused themes that originated from Sky Battalion. Ultimately, it was going to end up being used in Rage Ravine (or one of the beta Aqua Tunnel themes was, either way!) but the level just wasn't going to be ready in time, unfortunately.
[The early version] was the last tune I solo-composed for Sky Battalion before [Sabrina] ultimately came up with the solution for the puzzle that was making a song for that level.
I think this song about killed [Sabrina] and I. I don't know if it was the level itself, or just how long it took to get right, but there were several different takes on themes for this levels, none of which quite worked, until, ultimately, [the final] one came along. - OST Commentary

Prince Dail Boss Battle

Sabrina's Demo Final

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Not too different from the final track compostion-wise, besides being shorter.
Psst, looking for Like A Boss?

Aqua Tunnel 1

Beta Final Final (OST)

Source unknown for the early version, otherwise from the game files.

The beta version has a slower BPM, louder hihats in some sections, and is extended identically to the OST version of Aqua Tunnel 1.

Aqua Tunnel 2

Beta Final Final (OST)

Source unknown for the early version, otherwise from the game files.

The beta version has some minor composition differences in places (most noticably at 1:28 and beyond), but is otherwise near identical to the final track.

The OST version of the track has a strange pause at 0:21 which makes the song offbeat until the bridge at 0:37. The in-game version of the track removes this pause, making the rest of the song beyond 0:37 offbeat instead. The beta version has none of these issues.

Bossoft (Aquatic Boss Battle)

Beta Final

Sourced from the game files.

The beta version is used in 1.4.0. It lacks some drum samples and it's shorter.

Up The Creek (Jade Creek 1)

Sabrina's Demo Early (v1, 2013) Final (v5)

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Sabrina's demo isn't too different from the final product, minus the fact that the final track is about 5 times longer than the demo. The part from the demo can be heard at 0:34-1:12 in the final.
Version 1 of the track sounds closer to the final product, minus some more rougher instruments (most noticable at 0:28) and some mixing differences.

Up The Sub (Jade Creek 2)

Sabrina's Demo Early (v1, 2013) Final (v6)

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Sabrina's demo has a higher tempo than the final track, and is missing some instruments towards its loop compared to the final.
Version 1 of the track sounds closer to the final product. It has some mixing differences, and has a weird exporting error where after 1:10 the track falls silent, minus some reverse crash cymbals.
The final track is about twice as long, and features some melodies that didn't make it into Jade Creek 1:

Stage 2 features some sections that Stage 1 did not have, and vice-versa, but that is because the feeling for stage 2 is far, far more urgent. Still, there are some very familiar cues, such as the strings, and the 1:13 section, which starts a bit earlier here, due to the faster tempo! - OST Commentary

Thermal Base 1

Sabrina's Demo Final

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Sabrina's demo is at a lower tempo compared to the final track, but is otherwise not too different from it composition-wise. The part from the demo can be heard in the final track at 0:14-0:56.

Pangu Lagoon 1

DnB_01 (v1, 2013) Beta Final (v4)

Source unknown for DnB_01, otherwise from the game files and the second Galaxytrail forum.

DnB_01 is an extremely early version of Pangu Lagoon, lacking a lot of instruments and generally just sounding rougher.
The beta version features an extended melody shortly before the loop, played via a few vocal samples that didn't make it into the final track. It also lacks Dawn M. Bennett's vocals:

Late-beta version of Pangu Lagoon from Freedom Planet, just before we added the voiceover and removed the other vocal samples. - pangu beta
Anyway, this is from before we added the voiceover, and removed the other vocal samples (their melody, but not the sample itself, returned for Pangu_B.) - Galaxytrail Forums

Hey, I finally have some insightful commentary!
This one was posted in a forum post from 2016 where Leila discussed the OST (funnily enough near the same post where the Final Boss 2 beta comes from too) and was put up as an unlisted video.

Unfortunately, YouTube is a horrible company and decided in 2021 that any videos from before 2017 that were unlisted should been private instead. This lead to a lot of lost media being formed, including this.

Sometime in mid 2025, I sent Leila a DM over Twitter asking if she could relist it again, and she happily obliged!

I'm glad it was something so simple! I don't have any of the old files or anything from either FP game nowadays (they're all on an old dead hard drive.) So this was a relief that it was just a quick one-click fix! - Twitter DMs

Pangu Lagoon 2

Beta/Pangu_2-roughsketch Final

Source unknown for Pangu_2-roughsketch, otherwise from the game files.

An earlier version of Pangu Lagoon 2's track, missing a couple of instruments and barring different mixing (most obviously the drums).

Neo Chase (Tragic Boss Battle)

Chase Scene (Final/v1.5, for comparison) Chase Scene (v1.7, 2012) Final

Source unknown for Chase Scene v1.7, otherwise from the game files.

Chase Scene v1.7 was an attempt at remaking Chase Scene, but evolved into Neo Chase. It is much closer-sounding to Chase Scene, but with some additional strings and a synth to make it sound more serious.

Originally, Neo Chase was supposed to replace Chase Scene in the game (hence the name), but it was turned into its own seperate thing:

This song is a very, very interesting story. If you listen closely, you'll notice it shares a melody with the Chase Scene song (there's also a large chunk of it at the end!) This is because it was actually meant to be a replacement for it, although ultimately, it wasn't used for that purpose.
This song also contains part of an unused stage theme meant for Sky Battalion, and part of an unused boss theme, which ultimately ended up being replaced with the theme for the Dail battles. - OST Commentary

Schmup Stage

Beta/CatchyCreekMaybe (2012) Final

Sourced from the game files and OST.

Originally, the beta version was going to be used for Jade Creek before the stage was reworked, with earlier metadata for the beta track confirming this.
I'm personally a big fan of the slower BPM the old one has, lets you appreciate the guitar slides more...

It was originally meant to be the background music to Jade Creek (then Chaos Creek) and later ended up being Torque's unofficial theme of sorts. It finally ended up in the schmup stages, and it couldn't be a better fit.
When this was going to be Jade Creek's BGM, I went for a much less digital/computer-y sound, and for an arrangement more in line with the sort of things I normally compose for other tracks. - OST Commentary

Battle Glacier 1

Sabrina's Demo Battle Glacier_Idea-v001 (2012)
Beta Final (v10)

Source unknown for Battle Glacier_Idea-v001, otherwise from the game files, OST and Soundcloud.

Originally, the beta version was going to be used for Jade Creek before the stage was reworked.

Sabrina's demo is in a lower key and has a slightly higher tempo. Strangely, it also seems to have metadata when downloaded from Soundcloud: The title is bg_prototype and claims it was made with SynthFont, a MIDI rendering program.

Battle Glacier_Idea-v001 is an earlier version of the song with different instruments and is generally more empty.

Battle Glacier 2 allegedly also has a MIDI prototype, but it was never posted.

A long, long time ago, [Sabrina] sent me the song we ultimately ended up using here. At the time, it was meant for Jade Creek (this was before I composed the schmup song for it, even!) but it ended up coming out way, way too final-confrontation-y for that.
The story was much different back then, though, and featured Shang-Tu and Shang-Mu troops facing off in the background. - OST Commentary

Final Boss 1

Beta Final

Sourced from the game files and OST. The beta features a weird synth arp during the entire song.

Not terribly different from the one we ultimately used! The arp ultimately didn't fit very well with the song though, and neither of us was too big a fan of the tempo. Still, it was kind of interesting!! - OST Commentary

Final Boss 2

Beta (Fan Extension) Final

Sourced from the game files and second Galaxytrail forum.

WAY different than the final product. This is another one with some history!!
This was apparently posted on the first Galaxytrail forum by Leila and eventually extended by an unknown user.
During a thread discussing the OST, it was sent back to Leila by someone, and even she had forgotten she'd made it. This is also the same thread is where the Pangu Lagoon 1 beta track comes from.

Referred to as BREV_MO in the remaining metadata.

Oooh~ I'm not even sure I remember that one. xD It may have been renamed though. - Galaxytrail Forums

Time Attack

Sabrina's Demo Early/OST Final

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Sabrina's demo is not too different from the final version composition-wise minus some of the arps in the background not being there.
The early version was used in earlier builds, and is baffling featured in the OST release. It features different mixing (most noticably the string-esque instrument at 0:14 being louder) and is noticably more compressed.

This one also originated from a [Sabrina] MIDI, and was the 6th or 7th song I arranged for the soundtrack. It's my favorite of the menu themes! - OST Commentary

Beta Aqua Tunnel 1 (Bonus Theme)

MillqueToast_idea2 (2013) Final

Source unknown for MillqueToast_idea2, otherwise from the game files.

The Bonus Stage and Mahjong themes were originally intended for Aqua Tunnel 1 and 2 respectively. MillqueToast_idea2 was also intended to be one of the Aqua Tunnel themes, hence the play on words in its title.
The Bonus Stage music is also referred to as MillqueToast_v_03 in its metadata, suggesting idea2 came first.

Relic Maze (Extended Mix)

Claire Ellis'
Arrangement
Early Final/OST

Source unknown for the early version, otherwise from the game files and OST.

Claire Ellis's arrangement was briefly used in 1.5.0 as a replacement for Relic Maze 1. It was also on Soundcloud, but got deleted at some point. No one archived the page (and I didn't think to either) so I couldn't get her commentary. I'm sorry.
The early version is shorter and VERY slightly higher quality than the final version, but is otherwise unchanged.

I was torn about which mix of the song to use, but I ultimately decided that [Leila]'s atmospheric rendition was the best fit for the pacing of the stage. - Sabrina's Demo of Relic Maze 1

I Am Invincible! (Invincibility Theme)

Sabrina's Demo (Isolated) OST Final

Sourced from the game files, Dragon Valley beta video and OST.

For some bizzare reason, despite the invincibility theme being the same throughout every public demo build and every kickstarter build, the OST version features either an earlier version or an export with some instruments missing.

Stage Complete!

Sabrina's Demo (Isolated) Final

Sourced from the game files and Dragon Valley beta video.

The final version adds a couple of synths on top of Sabrina's demo, and is otherwise the same.

Demo Reel/Audio Sampler Demos

Sourced from Furaffinity. Also available in video form if that's your thing.

It features, in order: Freedom Planet Theme (Title Screen) (Beta), Dragon Valley 1 (Beta), Dragon Valley 2 (Beta), a half-second of an early Relic Maze 1 composition, Relic Maze 1, Relic Maze 2, MEANIE Boss! (Minor Boss Battle) (Beta), Major Boss Battle (Beta), I Am Invincible! (Invincibility Theme), Speedup Powerup

Unused/Removed Tracks

Space Panic!

OST In-game

Spacier Panic!

OST In-game

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Intended for Horizon Starport and its shmup, Warp Sector. The stage got cut alongside any other DLC plans, so this was never used.

Trap Hideout 2

Sourced from the game files.

It's on the OST.
It's in the game files.
Every developer talks about it as if it's used.
It doesn't go used.

Pangu Lagoon 1 (Japanese)

Sourced from the OST.

The code that handles where in-game voicelines are loaded from allows for dubs to be easily created, so it's likely Freedom Planet was meant to get a Japanese dub.
Of course, this never happened, so this is the only remnant and proof of that.

Disaster Strikes

Sourced from the game files.

Originally used in 1.7.0 and 1.8.0 in the cutscene where Torque crash lands into Dragon Valley, but it was changed for some reason.

Speedup Powerup

Sourced from the game files.

Used for the titular powerup in the earlier versions of the game, before being rendered somewhat useless by good design choices.
Referred to as "SPEEEEEEED UUUUUUPP 1-0" in the metadata.

Thereisnopasswordscreen.mp3

Sourced from Soundcloud.

It's unknown what this could've been used for, as Leila states it's merely just unused BGM.

Robot Playground

cloud9jam (2007) (Official
MIDI file(?) render)
Robot Playground (2012)

Source unknown, probably the forums? Otherwise Soundcloud.

The infamous unused stage known for having a few rollercoaster sprites made for it and nothing else, then being recycled for Freedom Planet 2.
The original cloud9jam version was composed for Jade Phoenix, an old game Sabrina DiDuro was working on. This track also has a MIDI version that is completely lost.

City Centre Groove

FP1/2012 Revision 2013 Revision 2017 Revision
2022 Revision 2026 Revision

Sourced from the game files and Soundcloud.

Used temporarily for Mahjong for a good while.
You were inb4 this time...

nb4 someone mentions mahjong - WT City Centre Groove

Like A Boss/Storyline Boss

Project SAGA/FP (2012) Elancia Chronicles/Symphony
of Shifting Tides (2015)
Symphony of Shifting
Tides Redux (2025)

Sourced from 1.5.0, otherwise from Soundcloud.

An early version of a track for Leila's project Project SAGA Elancia Chronicles Symphony of Shifting Tides, used for Dail's Sky Battalion boss fight as a placeholder.
The 2015 revision's description mentions Galaxytrail using the track during development:

Some of you who beta tested Freedom Planet may recognize this tune, as it was used as a placeholder for boss fights involving prince Dail. - [Boss] Like A Boss

DMV

Sourced from Weasyl.

This track was used in the Kickstarter trailer for Freedom Planet, but is otherwise an original, unrelated track.

Over the course of many, many months, Purplewolf and I made many, many repeat trips to the DMV to get his motorcycles papers sorted. It was very boring. For some odd reason, every time we went, this very upbeat, poppy 90s, Sonic-esque tune would rattle around in my head and refused to leave. - DMV, Weasyl upload

Dangerous

Original Demo Reel Pitch (Edit)

Sourced from SoundCloud.

This track was originally intended for Fablequest, an unfinished RPG Sabrina DiDuro was working on prior to Freedom Planet. It was used in a lower pitch during a voice acting demo reel.

Metadata

When I was given the beta builds of the game, I noticed that some music tracks from the Data folder had unique metadata not present in any public version of the game (or I may be completely wrong and these are public! Please feel free to correct me!!).

I have decided to catalogue any interesting metadata here (metadata left over in other builds will also be added eventually), as I don't know if there's any other more appropriate place for this.
